Tidak wajib, sebagai informasi sesuai Keputudan Deputi PPSDM Nomor 2 Tahun 2022 bahwa dalam pelaksanaan Uji Kompetensi Penjenjangan ada 2 kategori peserta yaitu peserta pelatihan dan peserta non pelatihan. 

Bagi peserta non pelatihan diharuskan untuk mengikuti tes tertulis dan harus lulus sebelum nantinya bertemu dengan asesor untuk wawancara dan verifikasi portofolio. Sedangkan untuk peserta pelatihan dapat langsung ke tahapan wawancara dan verifikasi portofolio tanpa harus lulus tertulis.
